I work with oil paint creating figurative and portrait work.
I try to capture people caught in a moment, the essence of an emphatic feeling between people or when they are lost within themselves.

The work is intimate; subtleties of gesture and expression interest me that can convey a vulnerability, honesty and depth of feeling.
I am inspired by the way that people communicate and interact non-verbally.

Using monochromatic colour and a dramatic photographic contrast within a tightly cropped composition I simplify an image. Blended thin layers of paint give a tactile softness to the paintings. Painting close up, zoomed in images gives the paintings power and significance demanding attention.

There is a cinematic, atmospheric quality to the work, a series of symbolic glimpses of the subject’s hint towards implying a hidden narrative.
